BCBS of LA HSA Plans at a Glance
These plans qualifies as HSA-eligible. Combining a Health Savings Account (HSA) with this Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana HSA plans allows you to make tax-deductible contributions, pay medical expenses with pre-tax dollars, and earn tax-deferred interest. This account works much like an IRA, except you may use your tax-free savings for qualified medical expenses your health plan does not cover, such as your deductible, contact lenses, or most types of alternative medicine (see the qualified medical expenses). If you do not use these funds, they simply accumulate with interest, for distribution upon your retirement.

Coverage Synopsis
There are two versions of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana health plans:
BCBS HSA 100%
The first option pays 100% of all covered expenses up to $5 million per person after the deductible has been met.
BCBS HSA 80%
The second option pays 80% of all covered expenses up to $5 million per person after the deductible has been met.

Discount Features:
As an extra value, all covered members may receive instant discounts from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana's special Network of vision, hearing and dental providers. They have negotiated with theses providers to give our covered members significant savings on these services. Since this is a discount-only program and not a policy benefit, covered members enjoy immediate savings at the point of service and do not have to file claims or wait for reimbursement.
Rate Information
There are standard rates and rates for tobacco users. Please run an instant quote to see available rates. Premiums can be paid quarterly, semi-annual or annual billing, or by a monthly bank draft or credit card. The bank draft will occur on the premium due date each month. The initial premium can be paid with a check or credit card.
BCBS of LA PPO Network
Blue Cross Blue Shield has one of the largest Networks in Louisiana. Having access to the PPO Network can mean substantial discounts in what you pay for your health care even before you meet your deductible. The large list of doctors and hospitals can be viewed at their PPO Online Provider Directory. Policyholders can go to Blue Cross doctors anywhere in the country, and can even access a world-wide Network.
Underwriting
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana has one of the easiest, most efficient underwriting teams in the industry. The process is very fast if no medical records are needed. While it is always a good idea to apply at least three weeks prior to the time you need your new coverage to take effect, some applications are approved within a weeks time. If medical records are needed, the process could take longer.
Effective Dates
You may request an effective date any time as far out as 60 days after you sign your application.
You will be billed starting on your requested effective date, even if you have not yet been notified that you have been approved. If you are already covered, it is suggested you maintain your current coverage in-force until you have received notice from either HSA for America or directly from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana that your policy has been approved and is in-force.
HSA Administrators
Your health savings account is totally separate from your health insurance, and you may use any approved bank or trustee as your HSA administrator. We recommend that you choose one from our HSA administrator page, where you can compare rates and features.
