While
nothing has yet been passed, Congress is working hard to try to pass a healthcare
reform bill this year. Under most proposals, no reforms or changes will
take place until 2013.
All
proposals include the continuation of individual health insurance plans, though
the plans would be guaranteed issue - meaning anyone will qualify, regardless
of their health status.
While
the politicians are making promises that costs will go down, unfortunately
some experts are predicting that current proposals will cause insurance premiums
to go up for many people. There is also the possibility that some high-deductible
plans may be outlawed. If this happens, people who already have those
plans may be grandfathered in, and be able to keep them.
If
anything changes to provide better or less expensive options than you have
with HSA for America, you can always
change plans at that time. In the mean time, we recommend getting a
low-cost high-deductible HSA plan, and putting
as much money as possible in your health savings account to protect it from
taxation.
