HSA Maternity Coverage

A maternity coverage rider will pay expenses related to a routine childbirth.  Complications of pregnancy will normally be covered like any other illness, regardless of whether or not you have maternity coverage.  Maternity coverage is only available on a few HSA-qualified plans.  If you do not have maternity coverage, your related medical expenses can still be paid from your HSA, thus effectively making them tax deductible.

The maternity benefit must be purchased before you become pregnant, and may be dropped at any time.  If you are already pregnant and looking for coverage, click here.

We are currently aware of only one company in the entire country that is offering maternity coverage with an HSA, and that is Time Insurance.  Time is a division of Assurant, and probably writes more HSA-qualified health insurance than any other company.

Maternity Coverage

Maternity riders are available with all Time HSA plans*.  The way the coverage works is very simple.  You will choose a separate maternity specific deductible from the list below.  This determines the additional monthly cost that will added to your monthly insurance premium.

You pay only this deductible for a maternity claim, including prenatal care all the way through delivery.  You then receive 100% coverage after the deductible is met.  This limits your expenses for maternity care to the amount of your maternity deductible.  You also receive access to significant network discounts - often between 15 to 50% when using in network providers - before you even meet your deductible.

The flat monthly premium is as follows:

Deductible
Premium/Month
$10,000
$8.34
$5,000
$36.47
$2,500
$119.83
$1,000
$276.13

Your may only sign up for this rider at the time of your initial application with Time.  Coverage must begin 90 days before conception or no coverage is provided.

*In Texas, the maternity rider is only available with a $10,000 deductible.  And in North Carolina, the Time Maternity rider is not available.

Non-HSA Plans

Maternity coverage is NOT available on any other HSA-qualified plans.  Because of that, we offer traditional plans for those needing maternity coverage.

Humana

This optional maternity benefit is also designed to help cover the cost of routine pregnancy and delivery.  This plan has an additional $500 deductible, and will pay up to 60% of the costs of routine pregnancy and childbirth.  The premium is approximately $107.00 per month, depending upon your age.  Please contact us for an exact quote.  Maternity coverage is not available with an HSA plan, unless otherwise mandated by your state.

Already Pregnant?

If you are already pregnant, individual policies will not cover you until after your delivery.  While we are unable to offer anyone in that situation traditional insurance coverage, we have partnered with Affordable Health Care Options to offer a program that can help save you up to 60% off your maternity costs.

For more information on this program, please complete the AHCO Online Form and you will be contacted by Affordable Health Care Options within the next 24 hours.
