Maternity Coverage

Maternity Expenses Are Tax Deductible With An HSA

At this time, health insurance plans available on the market do not provide coverage for routine maternity coverage, but your related medical expenses can still be paid from your HSA, thus effectively making them tax deductible.  If you have complications with your delivery, your policy will cover those expenses just as if you were hospitalized for any other illness.

As of January 1, 2014, all individual plans are legally required to cover routine maternity costs.

Coverage Available in Certain States

Customers in Colorado, Montana and Oregon will receive coverage for routine maternity expenses, as mandated by state insurance laws.  For details on how this coverage works, please review the product brochure for the policy you are considering purchasing.  You can find the product brochure by running a quote, clicking details next to the plan you are considering, and then clicking on the link near the bottom of the page to open the brochure.

Customers in Colorado are covered for maternity as of January 1, 2011.

Customers in the state of Minnesota have the option of purchasing an Assurant Minnesota Qualified Plan I, II or III.  Each of the plans comes with a very low deductible, as well as routine maternity coverage.  The cost of these plans is significantly higher than any other Assurant policies.  Quotes for these plans are not available online.  If you are interested in one of these policies, please call 866-749-2039 to speak to with one of our expert advisors
