HSA Qualified Expenses

Health Savings Accounts allow you to set up a tax-deductible account to pay for HSA qualified expenses that are not covered by your health insurance.  These include expenses to cover your deductible, and to pay for alternative or preventive treatments that are not normally covered by most insurance policies.  Below is a partial list of HSA expenses deemed qualified by the IRS or federal courts.  Consult IRS Publication 502 - Qualified Medical and Dental Expenses and your tax advisor for more complete information.  

Please note that shortly after HSAs became available, the U.S. Treasury issued guidance to let it be known that over-the-counter medications are indeed considered to be eligible expenses.  View the Treasury department's HSA Basic brochure:
