Short Term Temporary Insurance Rates and Application

At , we represent many companies, and search through the competition in order to find our clients the best coverage at the lowest rates possible.  We have consistently found the best overall value for a short term plan to be with Assurant Health. The Assurant plan can be purchased for the exact number of days coverage is needed, with a minimum of 30 days, and the rates are very low.

Here are some of the features of the Assurant plan that stand out:

  1. Prescription drug card - All Assurant Health short-term customers receive a prescription drug card providing substantial savings on many prescriptions and automatic claims submission from participating pharmacies.

  2. One-time deductible - only one deductible per policy period, regardless of the number of claims. Many other plans provide for per-cause deductibles.

  3. Next-day coverage – you can apply by paper or online and receive coverage as early as the next day.

  4. Customers choose your own doctors and hospitals - Assurant Health plans guarantee that you can keep your primary care physicians. Some other plans charge a penalty if you visit a provider outside the insurer’s network.

  5. Coverage for exactly as long as you need it - You can choose the exact number of days you want to be insured. Some other companies sell whole months of coverage only.

  6. Greater lifetime maximum - Assurant Health STM plans allow for a lifetime maximum of $2 million or $5 million, compared to $1 million for most other short-term plans.

How Temporary Coverage Works

With temporary, or short-term medical insurance, you choose a deductible of $0, $250, $500, $1000, or $2500.  After your deductible, the plan pays 80% (or 100%, if that plan is chosen) of all covered expenses (including doctor visits and prescription drugs) up to $5000, and 100% thereafter up to a lifetime maximum of either $2 million or $5 million on the six month plan, or $1 million or $2 million on the 12-month plan.

There is also a 100% plan available, with deductible choices of $500, $1000, and $2500 deductibles, depending on your state.

One family deductible: if the $1,000 or $2,500 deductible is selected, only one deductible needs to be satisfied by all covered family members.

The length of coverage option on a six-month plan is from 30 to 185 days. The length of coverage option on a 12-month plan is from 30 to 365 days.

Short term health insurance is non-renewable.  However, after six months you may apply for an additional temporary policy if 1) no claims were incurred under a previous policy, 2) there has been no significant change in health.

The actual policy itself sets forth in detail the rights and obligations of both you and the insurance company.
